SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 64
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Dr. George C. Wright on the occasion of his 10th
anniversary as president of Prairie View A&M University; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Wright joined Prairie View A&M University
after having served as executive vice president for academic
affairs and provost at The University of Texas at Arlington; his
experience also includes service at Duke University and at The
University of Texas at Austin, where he was the holder of the
Mastin Gentry White Professorship of Southern History; and
WHEREAS, Under his exemplary leadership, Prairie View A&M
University has continued to fulfill its mission as a land-grant
college and achieve excellence in teaching, research, and
service; and
WHEREAS, An acknowledged scholar in his field, Dr. Wright
has been published in numerous journals and has written several
books, including A History of Blacks in Kentucky: In Pursuit of
Equality, 1890-1980, Volume II and the award-winning Racial
Violence in Kentucky, 1865-1940: Lynchings, Mob Rule, and "Legal
Lynchings"; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Wright has received many fellowships, grants,
and awards for his exemplary work, and he has been active in a
number of professional and civic organizations; he is truly
deserving of recognition for his many accomplishments; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend Dr. George C.
Wright on his exceptional service as president of Prairie View
A&M University and extend to him best wishes for continued
success in all his endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
