SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 93
WHEREAS, Civil Air Patrol Cadet Joseph P. Brands of
Fairview is receiving the Billy Mitchell Award and being promoted
to second lieutenant at a ceremony at Collin County Regional
Airport on July 28, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Named for the legendary airman Billy Mitchell,
this prestigious award is presented to Civil Air Patrol cadets
who have completed comprehensive leadership and aerospace exams,
passed a rigorous physical fitness test, and demonstrated
exemplary maturity; recipients of the award are eligible to join
the Unites States Air Force as airmen first class, and many of
them go on to enter one of the United States military academies;
and
WHEREAS, A senior at Lovejoy High School and the son of
proud parents Flora and Bob Brands, this outstanding young Texan
is an aerospace officer in the McKinney Thunderbolt Composite
Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol; following college, he hopes to
pursue a career as an aerospace engineer; and
WHEREAS, Making this solemn ceremony even more meaningful,
Cadet Brands will be receiving his award from his grandfather,
Paul C. Brands, a retired lieutenant colonel of the United States
Air Force; and
WHEREAS, Cadet Joe Brands's hard work, discipline, and
commitment to service have earned him this impressive accolade,
and it is a pleasure to join his family and friends in recognizing
him as he embarks on a future bright with promise; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Joseph P.
Brands on his receipt of the Billy Mitchell Award and on his
promotion to cadet second lieutenant and extend to him sincere
best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for Cadet Brands as an expression of high regard by the
Texas Senate.
