 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The 95th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed
 cause for celebration, and Amanda Carmona Rodriguez of Weslaco is
 reaching that impressive milestone on August 25, 2013; and
 WHEREAS, Born in General Trevino, Mexico, to Guadalupe and
 Maria de los Angeles Carmona in 1918, Mrs. Rodriguez lost her mother
 when she was 18 months old, and she was raised in the United States
 by her maternal grandparents and her aunt; growing up in a family of
 farm workers, she faced challenges pursuing her education, but even
 so, this determined and resourceful woman taught herself to read
 and write; and
 WHEREAS, Amanda and Alejandro P. Rodriguez were joined in
 matrimony in Weslaco in 1942, and they shared a loving life together
 for nearly half a century, until his passing in 1991; the couple
 became the parents of three treasured children, Hercilia Rodriguez
 Garza, Erma Rodriguez Campos, and Elia Rodriguez Pena; and
 WHEREAS, In later life, Mrs. Rodriguez has seen her family
 grow to include eight grandchildren, Danny Garza, Jr., Eileen Garza
 Trevino, Steven Garza, Lucas Garza, Amanda Campos McCrory, Noel
 Alexander Campos, Rene Elizondo, Jr., and Rhonda Elizondo Luke, and
 14 great-grandchildren, Michael Ward, Marisa Garza, Tony Garza,
 Isabella Garza, Ben Garza, Nora Garza, Ava Garza, Parker McDowell,
 Jaron McDowell, Rene Elizondo III, Ramsey Elizondo, Jacob Elizondo,
 Amanda Luke, and Odin Luke; most recently, she has become the proud
 great-great-grandmother of Caleb Elizondo and Casey Elizondo; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Rodriguez has devoted her life to her family
 and her church; during her children's years at St. Joan of Arc
 School in Weslaco, she played an active role in the mother's club,
 helping to prepare the first Friday communion breakfasts and the
 Wednesday hamburger lunches; she also helped make tamales to raise
 money for the church, and she was a valued member of the Vela
 Perpetua association; today, she takes delight in corresponding
 with her friends and family and working on quilts; and
 WHEREAS, Blessed with the affection of a host of loved ones
 and sustained by her strong faith, Amanda Rodriguez continues to
 enrich the lives of all who are fortunate enough to know her; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Amanda
 Carmona Rodriguez on her 95th birthday and extend to her sincere
 best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mrs. Rodriguez as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
