SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 10 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Samuel E. Jackson, Jr., who is retiring from the Houston Independent School District after 34 years of outstanding service as an educator; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson is a graduate of Texas Southern University; over the course of his career with the district, he has served at a number of schools, including Kashmere High School, Sam Houston High School, Madison High School, and Jefferson Davis High School; and WHEREAS, A dedicated and resourceful educator, he instilled in his students an appreciation for hard work and a love of learning; he has served as a mentor and as an inspiration to several generations of young musicians; and WHEREAS, An accomplished musician in his own right, he has worked with many well-known performers, including Bobby Bland, Millie Jackson, Al Green, the Whispers, and Nancy Wilson; he has also led such noted local musical groups as the Young Sounds of Houston Youth Jazz Orchestra and the University of Houston Downtown Civic Jazz Orchestra; and WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson has been a positive influence in the lives of his students, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his many contributions to the education of Houston's youth; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Samuel E. Jackson, Jr., on his exceptional work as an educator with the Houston Independent School District and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
