                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 5
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize the West Veterans Honor Guard; and
 WHEREAS, This exemplary association was founded in 1990 as
 the VFW Honor Guard by members of West Veterans of Foreign Wars
 Post 4819 under the leadership of Harry Lee Hykel and post
 commander Frank Podsednik; they were soon joined by members of
 the American Legion, and the organization became known as the
 West Veterans Honor Guard; and
 WHEREAS, These dedicated patriots have generously
 committed their time and their talent to provide traditional
 graveside military honors to deceased veterans; their services
 include flag-folding and presentation, the playing of "Taps," a
 rifle detail, and a color guard; since its inception, the group
 has provided these tributes at more than 430 funerals for those
 who served; and
 WHEREAS, The West Veterans Honor Guard also appears at a
 variety of public events across Central Texas, including the
 Westfest Labor Day parade, where its members provide a color
 guard and a display of service flags; and
 WHEREAS, This exceptional organization is truly deserving
 of recognition for its patriotism and its dedication to service;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend the members of
 the West Veterans Honor Guard on their many contributions to the
 community and extend to them best wishes for continued success in
 their honorable endeavors; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 the organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas
 Senate.
