Dutton, Jr., Chair, House Committee on Juvenile Justice & Family Issues      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB107 by White, James (Relating to the fine imposed on a student convicted of truancy.), As Introduced    No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would change the maximum fine for an offense of failure to attend school from $500 to $20 per offense. Fine revenue is kept locally, not sent to the state, therefore this change would have no cost to the state.  Local Government Impact The bill would reduce fine revenue collected and retained by local governments.  Revenue losses would vary based on the number of cases and the amount of fine imposed. Hays County reported that revenue from a reduction in fines collected is not anticipated to have a significant fiscal impact.
