The bill relates to continuing eligibility requirements for institutions of higher education to participate in the Texas Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (T-STEM) Challenge Scholarship Program. Under provisions of the bill, beginning with the third year following implementation of the scholarship program, an eligible institution must demonstrate to the board that at least 70 percent of its T-STEM Challenge Scholarships recipients are employed or enrolled in courses leading to a certificate, associate, or baccalaureate degree in a STEM field, within twelve months of receiving the scholarship. Provisions of the bill would be implemented within existing resources. Local Government Impact No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
