The bill would require the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to conduct a study of the feasibility, costs, and benefits of using the Red River between the Denison Dam on Lake Texoma and Shreveport, Louisiana, for commercial navigation. The bill would require TxDOT to consult with stakeholders and appropriate governmental agencies in Arkansas and Louisiana in conducting the study and to issue a report containing its findings to the Legislature no later than January 1, 2017. The bill would authorize TxDOT to accept grants or private donations for the purposes of conducting the study.Based on the information provided by TxDOT, it is assumed any costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.
