In 2001, legislation passed that repealed numerous individual county public defenders offices in order to better organize and more uniformly administer the programs throughout the state. However, due to a clerical error, Randall County was not repealed among all of the other articles. This bill corrects the error. H.B. 2193 amends current law relating to the office of a public defender appointed by the Commissioners Court of Randall County. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Repealer: Article 26.053 (Public Defender in Randall County), Code of Criminal Procedure. SECTION 2. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2015.
