The bill would amend the Health and Safety Code to require certain animal shelters to develop a written statement of the shelter's euthanasia policy. The bill would require an animal shelter to prepare and maintain records of the intake and disposition of animals in the shelter. The bill sets forth requirements of the records maintained by an animal shelter. Under the provisions of the bill, an animal shelter would be required to prepare monthly records, maintain records for at least three years after the record was prepared and make records available to the public. Local Government Impact There could be cost associated with the provisions of the bill. The costs would vary by entity and would depend on a number of factors including the current documentation of a shelter, the number of animals cared for in a shelter, and existing shelter resources.
