The bill would amend the Family Code to require courts to enter a possession order that provides equal parenting if the court renders an order appointing the parents joint managing conservators, unless the court finds it would not be in the best interest of the child. The bill would authorize a court to enter an equal parenting order in lieu of a standard possession order and the court would be authorized to select from a variety of different possession arrangements for that order. Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
