       AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT   In 2009, the Texas Legislature approved S.B. 175 to limit the total percent of an incoming class that must be admitted to institutions of higher education under the automatic admissions law. The bill specifically addressed rising enrollment numbers at The University of Texas at Austin under the statewide automatic admissions policy. The 83rd Legislature set the Sunset date for this provision to the 2017-2018 academic year.   H.B. 2472 repeals the Sunset provision for limited automatic admission to The University of Texas at Austin, as stated in Section 51.803(a-3) of the Education Code.   H.B. 2472 amends current law relating to the automatic admission of undergraduate students to The University of Texas at Austin.   RULEMAKING AUTHORITY   This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.   SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS   SECTION 1. Repealer: Section 51.803(a-3) (prohibiting The University of Texas at Austin, notwithstanding Subsection (a-1), from offering admission under that subsection for an academic year after the 2017-2018 academic year), Education Code.   SECTION 2. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2015. 

 

 

 

AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT

 

In 2009, the Texas Legislature approved S.B. 175 to limit the total percent of an incoming class that must be admitted to institutions of higher education under the automatic admissions law. The bill specifically addressed rising enrollment numbers at The University of Texas at Austin under the statewide automatic admissions policy. The 83rd Legislature set the Sunset date for this provision to the 2017-2018 academic year.

 

H.B. 2472 repeals the Sunset provision for limited automatic admission to The University of Texas at Austin, as stated in Section 51.803(a-3) of the Education Code.

 

H.B. 2472 amends current law relating to the automatic admission of undergraduate students to The University of Texas at Austin.

 

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

 

This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.

 

SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS

 

SECTION 1. Repealer: Section 51.803(a-3) (prohibiting The University of Texas at Austin, notwithstanding Subsection (a-1), from offering admission under that subsection for an academic year after the 2017-2018 academic year), Education Code.

 

SECTION 2. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2015.
