The bill would amend the Family Code to prohibit juveniles accused of running away from home under Section 51.03(b)(3) from being detained in a secure detention facility for any period of time. The bill would require a person taking a child into custody to bring the child to certain places of nonsecure custody or a nonsecure correctional facility. If a child is brought to a place of nonsecure custody, the child may remain at the location for not more than six hours. Under certain conditions, the child is entitled to a hearing that must be held as soon as practicable.The Office of Court Administration reported no significant impact to the state court system is anticipated. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
