The bill would amend the Government Code to include criteria for determining if a firefighter or emergency medical technician developed cancer during the course and scope of employment. The additional criteria would be used in the determination of eligibility for the payment of assistance to a survivor of an individual. Local Government Impact The bill could have an impact on the number of survivor claims on certain local pension systems; however, these costs cannot be determined. The impact of the bill would vary widely by each entity depending on the number of cases eligible for benefits under the provisions of the bill, the entity's survivor benefits policy, and the amount of financial assistance rewarded.
