The bill would repeal provisions in the Transportation Code governing railroad and public roadway crossings, including a provision requiring the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to maintain a toll-free telephone service to receive reports of malfunctioning mechanical safety devices at railroad crossings.Based on the information provided by DPS and the Department of Transportation, it is assumed the provisions of the bill would not result in a significant fiscal impact to the state. Local Government Impact There could be some loss of revenue from the repealing of certain offenses under the provisions of the bill, however the revenue loss is not expected to be significant.
