A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to school safety and the prevention of school violence.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Section 37.081, Education Code, is amended by
adding Subsection (i) to read as follows:
(i) The commissioner may develop programs to assist school
district peace officers in the performance of their duties,
including information systems programs to promote improved
collection and dissemination of information for the purpose of
school safety and violence prevention, including situational
awareness.
SECTION 2. Section 37.084, Education Code, is amended by
adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows:
(b-1) The commissioner may provide access to appropriate
data systems to assist in the collection of records for the purpose
of school safety and violence prevention.
SECTION 3. Subchapter D, Chapter 37, Education Code, is
amended by adding Section 37.1031 to read as follows:
Sec. 37.1031. ASSISTANCE FOR PROTECTION OF FACILITIES. The
commissioner may provide assistance to school peace officers and
other law enforcement agencies for the protection of school
facilities.
SECTION 4. Section 37.108, Education Code, is amended by
adding Subsection (e) to read as follows:
(e) The commissioner may provide school districts, public
junior college districts, and other law enforcement agencies access
to data and information management systems to aid in preparation of
the multihazard emergency operations plan in such a manner as to
improve school safety and violence prevention.
SECTION 5. This Act takes effect September 1, 2015.
