                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            April 6, 2015      TO: Honorable René Oliveira, Chair, House Committee on Business & Industry      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB512 by Moody (Relating to waiver of immunity in certain employment discrimination actions in connection with a workers' compensation claim.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Labor Code relating to waiver of immunity in certain employment discrimination actions in connection with a workers' compensation claim. The bill would take effect September 1, 2015.Based on the analysis of the Office of the Attorney General and the Department of Public Safety, it is assumed that duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources. Local Government Impact According the Texas Association of Counties, fiscal impact to counties is not anticipated to be significant because the number of awards statewide is anticipated to be relatively small. However, while single damage award of $100,000 would be significant in a smaller county, it is not possible to determine the number of claims filed by first responders for wrongful discharge.
