                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            April 14, 2015      TO: Honorable Abel Herrero, Chair, House Committee on Criminal Jurisprudence      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB888 by Bonnen, Greg (Relating to the punishment for the offense of making a false report or statement regarding a missing child; increasing a criminal penalty.), As Introduced    No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Penal Code to increase a criminal penalty from a Class C misdemeanor to a Class A misdemeanor for filing a false report or making a false statement in reference to a missing child under the age of 14.  Local Government Impact A Class A misdemeanor is punishable by a fine of not more than $4,000, confinement in jail for a term not to exceed one year, or both. Costs associated with enforcement, prosecution and confinement could likely be absorbed within existing resources.
