                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            March 23, 2015      TO: Honorable Jimmie Don Aycock, Chair, House Committee on Public Education      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:HB917 by Villalba (Relating to school marshals for private schools, notifying a parent or guardian whether an employee of a public or private school is appointed school marshal, and the confidentiality of information submitted to or collected by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement in connection with a certification for appointment as school marshal.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would allow the governing body of a private school to appoint school marshals to make arrests and exercise the same authority as a peace officer.The bill would require school districts or open-enrollment charter schools to disclose in writing whether any of their employees have been appointed as a school marshal if they receive a written request for this information by the parent or guardian of an enrolled student.The bill has no direct fiscal implications for the operations of the Texas Education Agency. The Texas Department of Public Safety anticipates that any costs associated with the provisions of the bill can be absorbed within current agency resources. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
