 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Since 1953, the 100 Club, headquartered in Houston,
 has demonstrated unwavering support to Texas law enforcement
 officers and firefighters and their families; and
 WHEREAS, This nonprofit organization was initially founded
 to provide financial assistance to the dependents of Houston police
 officers who died in the line of duty, and it drew its name from the
 initial group of 100 people who contributed $100 each to fund the
 initiative; through the years, the club has expanded its scope to
 offer benefits to the families of firefighters, institutional
 personnel with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and
 commissioned personnel with the Texas Department of Public Safety,
 the Parks and Wildlife Department, and the Texas Alcoholic Beverage
 Commission; today, the 100 Club includes a membership of more than
 30,000 and is active in 31 counties across East Texas; and
 WHEREAS, The 100 Club also provides area law enforcement
 agencies with such life-protecting supplies as bulletproof vests
 and radio equipment, and it funds a program that has helped over 700
 peace officers earn a degree from one of three state universities;
 since its inception, the group has contributed more than $42
 million in benefits, equipment, and education scholarships; and
 WHEREAS, For more than six decades, the 100 Club has honored
 the sacrifices of fallen heroes and offered vital assistance to
 first responders, and its outstanding efforts are indeed deserving
 of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby commend the 100 Club for its work in behalf of
 police officers and firefighters and their families and extend
 sincere best wishes to the club's members for continued success
 with their important work; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
