No. 142 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Retired U.S. Army Colonel David Michael Annen Sr. of Spring Branch is celebrating his 62nd birthday on January 21, 2015, and this is a fitting opportunity to honor him for his distinguished record of military service; and WHEREAS, Born in Madison, Wisconsin, to Donald and Dorothy Annen in 1953, David Annen graduated from Madison West High School in 1971; he received his degree from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1975 and was simultaneously commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the U.S. Army; assigned to the field artillery, he rose to command two batteries, a battalion, and a brigade; he later served as inspector general of the 1st Cavalry Division and as chief of staff to the 5th Army; and WHEREAS, This outstanding officer served with distinction both stateside and abroad; his postings included Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, Fort Polk, Louisiana, Fort Hood, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, and Fort Sam Houston, as well as bases in Wertheim, Giessen, and Frankfurt in West Germany; over the years, he continued his military education at numerous schools, including the U.S. Army War College; and WHEREAS, After retiring in 2005, Colonel Annen settled in Spring Branch, where he currently works for the defense contractor General Dynamics; in all his endeavors, he has enjoyed the love and support of his wife of nearly 40 years, Kristie Annen, as well as that of his children, David, Katherine, and Adam; and WHEREAS, With the passage of another year, Colonel Annen may reflect with pride on his exemplary career in the U.S. armed forces and know that he has earned the deepest gratitude of his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby commend Colonel David Michael Annen Sr. for his service to our nation and congratulate him on the occasion of his 62nd birthday; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Colonel Annen as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
