R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Officer John W. Sartain of the Corpus Christi Police
Department lost his life in the line of duty on August 20, 1971, and
his service and sacrifice will not soon be forgotten; and
WHEREAS, While walking to his squad car to begin a patrol
shift with his partner, Officer Sartain was shot outside the police
station; he died the following day at a local hospital; and
WHEREAS, At the time of his death, Officer Sartain was
survived by a wife and daughter; this dedicated public servant was
honored in the community he so ably served with a street that was
renamed in his memory; and
WHEREAS, Our state and nation benefit immeasurably from the
courage and commitment of law enforcement professionals such as
Officer Sartain, who willingly place themselves in harm's way each
day to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow citizens;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and exemplary service of
Officer John W. Sartain of the Corpus Christi Police Department.
