Hinojosa is stepping down as Southwest regional counsel for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund in 2015, after an outstanding tenure of more than a decade with that organization; and WHEREAS, Since joining MALDEF in 2003, Mr. Hinojosa has gained recognition as one of its most effective litigators, particularly in the area of education; he has worked on issues related to public school finance, the provision of adequate education for low-income, special education, and English Learner students, and the equitable and inclusive treatment of public schoolchildren; he has also sought to protect access to higher education and to defend the rights of workers and military veterans; and WHEREAS, This esteemed attorney has provided expert testimony to local and state governmental bodies, and he has contributed chapters on the subject of school finance to two books, one of which is forthcoming from Harvard Education Press; in addition, he has presented at more than 75 local, state, and national conferences, lectured at universities and law schools around the country, and participated in numerous roundtables; and WHEREAS, A native of San Antonio, Mr. Hinojosa earned his bachelor's degree with honors from New Mexico State University and his J.D. from The University of Texas at Austin School of Law in 2000; he previously served as an air traffic controller in the U.S. Air Force for nearly eight years and was honored with several military awards; and WHEREAS, David Hinojosa has worked tirelessly to advance the cause of social justice, and his commitment to creating a society of greater fairness and opportunity is a source of continuing inspiration to all who know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby honor David G. Hinojosa for his achievements as Southwest regional counsel for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Hinojosa as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
