 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Acclaimed jazz trumpeter and composer Freddie Jones
 of Dallas has set an inspiring example of giving through the
 nonprofit Trumpets4Kids; and
 WHEREAS, Passionate about music from a young age, Freddie
 Jones began playing trumpet in junior high school and went on to
 graduate with a bachelor's degree in jazz studies from the
 University of North Texas; over the course of his career, he has
 released four studio albums and has toured around the globe, and he
 delivers the national anthem before Dallas Cowboys home games; and
 WHEREAS, Long dedicated to giving the gift of music to
 underprivileged students in the area, this dynamic Texan founded
 the Carrollton-based Trumpets4Kids in 2007; the organization
 allows local band directors to nominate aspiring trumpeters to
 receive a free horn, and Mr. Jones personally interviews each
 candidate; up to 15 youngsters are selected each year, and they must
 pledge to practice at least one hour a day, maintain the instrument,
 and remain in band throughout high school; and
 WHEREAS, The nonprofit has afforded young musicians the
 opportunity to play in a variety of settings, including holiday
 concerts, science fairs, and hospitals, and it annually hosts
 Trumpet Wars, a music competition in which North Texas students
 perform in trios, quartets, and other types of ensembles; and
 WHEREAS, Freddie Jones has greatly enriched the lives of
 young Texans by helping them pursue a rewarding and educational
 discipline, and his notable endeavors are indeed deserving of
 recognition; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby commend Freddie Jones for his many good works in
 behalf of North Texas students and extend to all those associated
 with Trumpets4Kids sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
 further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Mr. Jones as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
