No. 197 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A 50th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of love and shared experiences, and Pat and Jeff Charney of Denton are celebrating this special milestone in their marriage on April 25, 2015; and WHEREAS, The couple began their journey as husband and wife with the exchange of their wedding vows in 1965 at a ceremony held in Littleton, Colorado; their enduring union has brought much happiness to this devoted pair, and through the years, they have shared their joy with a treasured circle of loved ones, including their children, Carolyn Jean and her partner, Lee Ann Shiver, Melinda Suzanne and her late husband, Timothy Paul Mangrum, and Fredrick James and his wife, Lori Ann Gabbert; Dr. and Mrs. Charney have also known the delight of welcoming into the family three grandchildren, Trevor Cole, Bethany Nicole, and John Mitchell Mangrum; and WHEREAS, Pat Charney had agreed to the marriage under the mistaken assumption that her future husband would fulfill his plan of becoming a forest ranger, but a different path awaited the two; Dr. Charney joined the United States Army after receiving his medical degree from the University of Colorado; following his honorable discharge at the rank of lieutenant colonel, he settled into private practice in Denton and has provided care to residents in that community for the past 35 years; meanwhile, Mrs. Charney attended five colleges in four separate states, all while balancing the demands of raising three children; nearly two decades after committing to her goal, she proudly graduated with a degree in accounting from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor; and WHEREAS, With a shared zest for adventure, Dr. and Mrs. Charney have cherished the opportunity to travel around the world; they have visited such faraway lands as Russia, Micronesia, Egypt, Greece, Panama, Bora Bora, and an assortment of Caribbean islands, yet they enjoy the peaceful confines of their 300-acre ranch outside of Bolivar, Texas, as much as any place they have been; and WHEREAS, Built on a foundation of mutual affection, faith, and trust, the Charneys' marriage has been a source of inspiration to all who know them, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize the enduring bond of love that has united them for five decades; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Pat and Jeff Charney on their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them warmest best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. and Mrs. Charney as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
