R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Sheriff Matthew Nolan of the Nueces County Sheriff's
Office lost his life in the line of duty on December 22, 1864, and
his service and sacrifice will not soon be forgotten; and
WHEREAS, A five-year veteran of the sheriff's office, Sheriff
Nolan was on duty when he was approached by two armed suspects who
asked his name; after he replied, the men opened fire, killing him
instantly; at the time of his death, he was survived by his wife;
and
WHEREAS, Our state and nation benefit immeasurably from the
courage and commitment of law enforcement professionals such as
Sheriff Matthew Nolan, who willingly place themselves in harm's way
each day to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow
citizens; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and exemplary service of
Sheriff Matthew Nolan of the Nueces County Sheriff's Office.
