H.R. No. 2363
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The boys' track and field teams from the Buna
Independent School District made an impressive showing at the
district meet held in Deweyville in April 2015; and
WHEREAS, Guided by head coach Michael Golden, the Buna Junior
High School eighth-grade team eclipsed formidable competition to
clinch the District 23-3A championship; the Cougars were paced by
Aaron Harris, who notched wins in the 200-meter dash, long jump, and
triple jump events and joined with Tyler Payne, Garrett Poole, and
Alex Connell to triumph in the 4x200-meter relay; Keaton Waldrup
also contributed to the squad's gold medal count with first-place
showings in the 1,600-meter and 2,400-meter races; in addition, the
Buna Junior High seventh-grade team finished second at the meet;
and
WHEREAS, The Buna High School Cougars accumulated an
impressive collection of medals as well; junior Josh Kelly was
crowned champion in both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races, and
a gold medal was also claimed by sophomore Kerrion Lewis in the
triple jump; moreover, second-place finishes by seniors Justin
Durden in the discus, Jonathan Sanders in the 300-meter hurdles,
and Mason Lopez in the 200-meter dash enabled the three athletes to
join Mr. Kelly and Mr. Lewis in advancing to area competition; and
WHEREAS, With their outstanding performances at the district
meet, the track and field teams from Buna ISD proudly represented
their schools and their community, and they may take justifiable
pride in their notable accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Buna Independent
School District boys' track and field teams for their success at
district competition and extend to them sincere best wishes for the
future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the teams as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
