 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The boys' soccer team from Rivera High School in
 Brownsville proved itself one of the finest in Texas by winning the
 2015 University Interscholastic League 6A state championship on
 April 18 at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown; and
 WHEREAS, The championship victory closed out an
 unforgettable year in which Rivera recorded a perfect record of 28
 wins and zero defeats; after claiming the District 32-6A regular
 season title, the Raiders carried their momentum into the
 postseason with a dominant 5-0 shutout of Edinburg High School in
 the opening round of the playoffs; subsequent victories over Del
 Rio, Juarez-Lincoln, Reagan, and Brandeis High Schools secured the
 team's spot in the state tournament for the third time in school
 history; and
 WHEREAS, In the semifinals, Rivera overwhelmed North
 Mesquite High School by a score of 5-1 to advance to the
 championship contest; matching up against Cinco Ranch High School
 from Katy with the state crown on the line, the Raiders took control
 in the first half with goals from Isidro Martinez and David
 Alexander that were scored just two minutes apart; the team's stout
 defense did the rest, shutting out the opposing team to earn Rivera
 a 2-0 triumph and the 6A title; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez was named Most Valuable Player of the
 championship game, and he was joined on the All-Tournament Team by
 Israel Acero, Eliezer Acero, Eliseo Ortiz, and Alexis Herrera; the
 Raiders also received essential contributions throughout the
 season from the other members of the roster: Jesus Zaragoza, Jorge
 Cordova, Jesus Torres, Jose Villanueva, Alfredo Villareal, Abdon
 Cruz, Hernan Cruz, Erik Alonso, Ray Alvarez, Lee Roy Martinez,
 Carlos Alvarez, Eduardo Salinas, Julian Espinoza, Edward Rojas,
 Roberto Melendez, Roberto Castro, Jose Muniz, Marcos Hernandez, and
 Ivan Cruz; and
 WHEREAS, These talented student-athletes were inspired to
 play at the top of their game by head coach Salvador Garcia and
 assistant coaches Andres Macias, Jose Dominguez, and Jimmy
 Montalvo; additional support was provided by managers Sergio Soto
 and Francisco Cardenas; and
 WHEREAS, In reaching their season-long goal of a state
 championship without losing a single game, the members of the
 Rivera High School soccer team have demonstrated exemplary teamwork
 and an unwavering commitment to excellence, and the players and
 their many supporters in the local community will forever cherish
 the memory of this remarkable accomplishment; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate the Rivera High School boys' soccer
 team on winning the 2015 UIL 6A state championship and extend to the
 team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
 continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
