No. 292 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Guy McClendon has been named a 2014 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar in recognition of his achievements in the Service and Leadership category; and WHEREAS, The Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholars program was established to reward local students who have demonstrated excellence in such areas as academics, athletics, leadership, and community service; since its inception in 1988, some 480 young men and women have been selected for this prestigious honor, with the winners each receiving a stipend to assist with college expenses; and WHEREAS, The son of Kathy McClendon and Guy Morris McClendon Jr., Guy McClendon is a senior at Banquete High School, where he maintains a 98 grade point average and ranks 10th in his class; he has completed medical courses at Del Mar College and has earned certification as a nursing assistant and an EKG technician; also participating in a variety of extracurricular activities, he is a member of the school's golf team and a huddle leader in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and he has served in leadership roles in the student council, the Clover Leaf 4-H, and the BHS chapter of HOSA-Future Health Professionals; in addition, he has attained the rank of Eagle Scout; after graduation, he plans to pursue a career as a registered nurse and later, a youth pastor or missionary; and WHEREAS, This exceptional young Texan has worked toward his goals with tremendous dedication, and he may take great pride in all that he has accomplished as he looks ahead to a future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Guy McClendon on his selection as a 2014 Corpus Christi Caller-Times/Citgo South Texas Distinguished Scholar and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. McClendon as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
