No. 2932 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Pat Stephens of Dallas has been named the recipient of a 2015 Unsung Hero Award by Eta Phi Beta Sorority for her outstanding contributions to her community; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Stephens's record of civic engagement dates back to 1972, when she established the Silver Chain Social and Charity Club to serve less fortunate citizens in Dallas; eager to inspire another generation of Texans, she later organized the Silver Chain Youth Group to spread her message of selfless service and giving back among young people in the community; and WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan founded the Westmoreland Heights Neighborhood Association in 1985 and has led the group for the past three decades; in addition, Mrs. Stephens played an integral role in the development of the Westmoreland Heights Community Center, whose program includes classes in computer skills, parenting, and financial literacy and whose food pantry provides vital assistance to more than four hundred families each month; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Stephens has also given freely of her time and talents as a Cub Scout leader, as a volunteer for Clean West Dallas, and as a board member for the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center; moreover, she helps sponsor yearly trips for high-achieving students in the area and manages a care group at the Dallas West Church of Christ, where she worships; and WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, Mrs. Stephens enjoys the love and support of a fine family that includes her husband of nearly 50 years, John Stephens, their children, Sherry, Kelvin, and Christopher, and their 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Through her caring, committed, and dynamic leadership, Pat Stephens has made a positive difference in the lives of countless West Dallas residents, and she is truly deserving of this prestigious award; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Pat Stephens on being named a 2015 Unsung Hero Award winner by Eta Phi Beta Sorority and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Stephens as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
