H.R. No. 3006 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to a close with the passing of Stuart Sinclair Coleman of Brownwood on June 2, 2014, at the age of 87; and WHEREAS, Born in Brownwood on September 30, 1926, to Cheslie and Erva Sinclair Coleman, Stuart Coleman answered his nation's call to duty by serving in World War II as a member of the U.S. Army; after earning an honorable discharge, he returned to his hometown, where he helped his father on the family farm and later worked in automotive sales; and WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Mr. Coleman shared a long and fulfilling marriage with his wife, the former Margaret Turner, and over the decades they were blessed with a treasured family that included a daughter, Ann, and two grandsons, Stephen and Andrew; in 1956, the couple founded the Coleman Distributing Company, a wholesale beer distributor that they operated for 56 years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Coleman first entered public service in 1960 with his election to the Brown County Water Improvement District, which he served for over half a century, including nine years as its chair; appointed to the Texas Water Development Board by Governor Mark White in 1990, he later served two terms as a member of the Region F Water Planning Group, and he went on to serve for six years on the Texas Building and Procurement Commission as an appointee of Governor Rick Perry; and WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan further distinguished himself through his service on the boards of the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce, the Brownwood Economic Development Corporation, the Brownwood Regional Medical Center, the Brownwood Industrial Foundation, the Brownwood Regional Airport, and the J. R. Beadel Central Texas Foundation, as well as the Wholesale Beer Distributors of Texas; and WHEREAS, In recognition of his outstanding leadership, he was presented with the 2007 Groner Pitts Lifetime of Service Award, the 2000 Pioneer Award for Continuous Service, and the 1994 Distinguished Service Award from the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce, as well as with the 1991 Team Brownwood Distinguished Industrial Service Award; he was also named Brownwood's Outstanding Man Over 40 in 1994, and he and his wife received special tribute with the naming of the Margaret and Stuart Coleman Plaza in their honor in 1999; and WHEREAS, Stuart Coleman made a lasting, positive difference in his community, and memories of his extraordinary selflessness and generosity will be a continuing source of inspiration to all who had the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Stuart Sinclair Coleman and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Margaret Coleman; to his daughter, Ann McCrummen; to his grandsons, Stephen and Andrew McCrummen; to his brother, Jerry Coleman, and his wife, Polly; and to his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Stuart Sinclair Coleman.
