 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, Locally owned and operated businesses play a vital
 role in the prosperity of the Lone Star State, and those enterprises
 that build a record of dependability and longevity enjoy a special
 degree of esteem in their communities; and
 WHEREAS, The Atkinson Candy Company was founded in downtown
 Lufkin in 1932 by B. E. and Mabel Atkinson; over the decades, it has
 attained notable success with its assortment of sweets, and the
 business expanded in 1983 with its acquisition of the San
 Antonio-based Judson Candy Company; and
 WHEREAS, Today, the enterprise is owned and operated by the
 third and fourth generations of the Atkinson family and is ably led
 by its founders' grandson, Eric Atkinson, who has served as
 president since 2000; he has earned well-deserved recognition from
 the industry by being named the 1990 Candy Man of the Year by the
 Southern Candy and Tobacco Association, and he will be inducted
 into the Candy Hall of Fame by the National Confectionary Sales
 Association in the fall of 2015; and
 WHEREAS, For more than eight decades, the Atkinson Candy
 Company has held a special place in the life of the Lufkin
 community, and all those associated with the enterprise may take
 pride in its achievements; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby recognize the Atkinson Candy Company for its
 many years in business and extend to the company's owners and staff
 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the company as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
