No. 3305 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Jacky Mayfield of Mount Vernon received well-deserved recognition when he was inducted into the East Texas Coaches Association Hall of Honor at a banquet held in Texarkana on February 21, 2015; and WHEREAS, Coach Mayfield enjoyed an exemplary 30-plus year career as a football coach in the State of Texas, serving as head coach at Pewitt High School in the early 1980s and as an assistant coach at Lufkin, Brazoswood, Daingerfield, Henderson, and Mount Vernon High Schools; and WHEREAS, This skilled mentor spent 17 seasons on the sidelines at Daingerfield, where he held the title of defensive coordinator under head coach Dennis Alexander; Coach Mayfield was the architect of several dominant defensive units for the Tigers, and his efforts helped the school capture state championships in 1983 and 1985; moreover, the 1983 Daingerfield defense distinguished itself as one of the finest in the country, with 14 shutouts in 16 games, including 13 in a row to set a new national record; in fact, the offense allowed the only points scored against the team, a safety and a touchdown on an interception return, as the Tigers completed the first 16-0 season in Texas high school football history; and WHEREAS, With his exceptional abilities to teach and motivate, Jacky Mayfield has made a positive difference in the lives of countless young athletes, and in so doing, he has earned a place among the legendary coaches of the East Texas area; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Jacky Mayfield on his induction into the East Texas Coaches Association Hall of Honor as a member of the Class of 2015 and commend him on his many achievements; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Coach Mayfield as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
