No. 787 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The football team of Allen Academy in Bryan brought the 2014 season to a triumphant close by winning the Texas Christian Athletic League Six-Man Division 1 state championship on November 29 at Benson Field in San Antonio; and WHEREAS, The Rams claimed the title with a 62-8 victory over Phoenix Charter School of Greenville, completing a perfect 13-0 season and capturing the school's first TCAL state football crown; Allen's explosive offense proved too much for its opponent to handle in the championship contest, as the Rams scored 34 unanswered points in the first quarter and closed out the game with a second quarter touchdown that invoked the 45-point "mercy rule"; and WHEREAS, Nine Allen Academy players were selected to the TCAL All-State Team for their exceptional performances in 2014, a group that included Carter Kacal, Cody Vega, Clay de Jong, Chris Hassell, Tyler Scott, Grant Rhoads, Gareth Prescott, Caleb Phillips, and Eric Vega; in their march to the state title, the Rams also received valuable contributions from the other members of the roster: Isaiah Savala, Sam Dawson, Caleb Hogan, Phillip Briner, Diego Pocurull, and Robin Li; and WHEREAS, These talented athletes received essential guidance from head coach Jason Jolly, who led the Rams to the state semifinals in 2012 and 2013 and who was chosen as TCAL Coach of the Year for his success in 2014; the team also benefited from the knowledgeable advice of assistant coaches Trey Moore, Nick Stromeyer, Patrick Lorden, and Kyle Taylor; and WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering commitment to excellence, and the members of the Allen Academy Rams football team will treasure the memory of this accomplishment for many years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Allen Academy football team on winning the 2014 TCAL Six-Man Division 1 state championship and commend the team's players, coaches, and staff for a job well done; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
