 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, The members of Girl Scout Troop 35 of Greater South
 Texas have served their community in myriad ways, and they are
 indeed deserving of special recognition; and
 WHEREAS, Dedicated to building character and developing
 confident, socially aware young women, the Girl Scout program of
 Greater South Texas is helping participants to discover how they
 can further the Girl Scout mission of making the world a better
 place; and
 WHEREAS, Representing the McAllen, Mission, and Edinburg
 school districts, members of Girl Scout Troop 35 have performed
 extensive community service; among the many organizations to have
 benefited from their efforts have been the Edinburg Children's
 Hospital, where they sang carols during the holidays and
 handcrafted puzzle books for pediatric patients, the Retama Nursing
 Home, where they made Christmas ornaments for residents, and the
 Palm Valley Animal Shelter, where they walked and played with the
 animals, cleaned kennels, and donated newspapers to line cages; the
 scouts have also sent letters to soldiers, organized food drives,
 and provided meals to families in need, as well as donated relief
 items to victims of Hurricane Katrina and the tornado outbreak in
 Kokomo, Indiana; and
 WHEREAS, Members of Troop 35 include Ambassadors Kassandra
 Peña, Jessica Vasquez, and Jacqueline Vasquez; Senior Cadets
 Victoria Alvarez, Destiny Morales, Ashlynn Russell, and Maraya
 Garcia; Cadets Clarissa Alvarez, Maegan Carithers, Tanya
 Carithers, Joanna Cruz, Yazmin Galvan, Kathleen Zamora, and Erika
 Rivera; Junior Cadets Sophia Handy, Sarah Gonzalez, Erin Krska,
 Carina Ramirez, Sydnee Rodriguez, Katelyn Saenz, and Annette
 Valdez; and Brownies Julie Arredondo and Olivia Handy; the troop
 benefits from the able guidance and tireless dedication of Michele
 Pena; and
 WHEREAS, By volunteering their time and talents, the members
 of Girl Scout Troop 35 of Greater South Texas are enriching
 countless lives and developing into engaged, thoughtful citizens
 who realize the value of giving back; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby commend the members of Girl Scout Troop 35 of
 Greater South Texas for their service to their community and extend
 to all involved with the troop sincere best wishes for the future;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for the troop as an expression of high regard by the Texas
 House of Representatives.
