The bill would amend the Human Resources and Family Code to allow juveniles committed to certain local post-adjudication facilities with a determinate sentence to be transferred to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to complete the determinate sentence in an adult state correctional institution or under adult parole supervision. The ability to transfer determinate sentence youth is an option for Texas Juvenile Justice Department facilities, and this would expand this ability to certain local post adjudication facilities. The bill would also allow eligible juveniles committed to certain local post-adjudication facilities on an indeterminate sentence to receive services from the Texas Correctional Office on Offenders with Medical or Mental Impairments. The Office of Court Administration indicates implementing the provisions of the bill would not result in a significant fiscal impact. This analysis assumes implementing the provisions of the bill would not result in a significant impact on state adult correctional or juvenile justice agencies.
