                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            April 14, 2015      TO: Honorable Robert Nichols, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:SB1167 by Ellis (Relating to relating to autonomous motor vehicles.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Transportation Code to require the Department of Public Safety (DPS) to alter driver licenses to identify autonomous vehicle drivers and adopt rules authorizing operation of autonomous vehicles. The bill would also require the Texas Department of Transportation to create a plan to install roadside communication infrastructure to support the operation of autonomous vehicles. It is assumed the costs associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within exiting resources. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
