                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            March 30, 2015      TO: Honorable John Whitmire, Chair, Senate Committee on Criminal Justice      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:SB1353 by Hinojosa (Relating to the provision and administration of indigent defense services.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Government Code permit the Texas Indigent Defense Commission (TIDC) to make a grant award directly to an entity providing administrative services to counties participating in an interlocal contract related to improving the provision of indigent defense services. Currently, TIDC is limited to making grants only to counties. The bill would also permit TIDC to participate in an interlocal contract with one or more counties to develop and maintain a computerized indigent defense case management system. The TIDC indicates that any costs of implementing bill provisions can be reasonably absorbed within its existing resources, and no significant fiscal implication to the state court system is anticipated. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
