LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION May 8, 2015 TO: Honorable John Zerwas, Chair, House Committee on Higher Education FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE:SB1543 by Perry (Relating to the admission of undergraduate students with nontraditional secondary education to public institutions of higher education.), As Engrossed No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. This bill would amend Education Code by adding a requirement that institutions must treat an applicant who has successfully completed a nontraditional secondary education equivalent to the same general standards, including specific standardized testing score requirements, as other applicants who have graduated from a public high school. The changes would apply beginning with admissions to a public institution of higher education for the 2016 fall semester. This analysis assumes that any costs for institutions of higher education to implement the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within current resources. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
