AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT S.B. 24, 83rd Legislature, Regular Session, 2013, created a new university in South Texas within The University of Texas System. S.B. 317 makes conforming changes in statue to insert the name University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) and other nomenclature where necessary. As proposed, S.B. 317 amends current law relating to The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends the heading to Chapter 79, Education Code, to read as follows: CHAPTER 79. THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS RIO GRANDE VALLEY SECTION 2. Amends Section 79.01(2), Education Code, as follows: (2) Redefines "university." SECTION 3. Effective date: upon passage or September 1, 2015.
