LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION April 6, 2015 TO: Honorable John Whitmire, Chair, Senate Committee on Criminal Justice FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE:SB487 by Ellis (Relating to postconviction forensic DNA analysis.), As Introduced No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure, relating to post conviction DNA analysis. The bill would authorize a motion and order for DNA-testing of evidence when there is a reasonable likelihood of the evidence containing biological material. The Office of Court Administration indicates that bill provisions are not anticipated to have a significant fiscal implication on the court system. In this analysis, it is assumed the Department of Public Safety could reasonably absorb bill provisions within the department's existing resources. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
