The bill would amend the Government Code as it relates to the awarding of Texas military service medals. Under the provisions of the bill the Governor or Adjutant General, if delegated the authority, could determine criteria for the awarding of the Texas Purple Heart Medal for those military members wounded or killed at Fort Hood on November 5, 2009. The Texas Military Department does not anticipate any significant impact as a result of implementing the provisions of the bill. The bill would take immediate effect if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, or September 1, 2015. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
