                    LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD    Austin, Texas      FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION            March 1, 2015      TO: Honorable Joan Huffman, Chair, Senate Committee on State Affairs      FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board     IN RE:SB627 by Huffman (Relating to certain publications that are privileged and not grounds for a libel action.), As Introduced    No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.  The bill would amend the Civil Practice and Remedies Code, regarding the publication of a newspaper or other periodical that is privileged and not grounds for a libel action.  According to the Office of Court Administration, the bill provisions are not anticipated to have a significant fiscal implication on the workloads of the judiciary.   The bill would take immediate effect if it receives two-thirds the vote of all members in each house. Otherwise, the bill would take effect September 1, 2015. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
