The bill would amend Chapter 502 of the Transportation Code, regarding the registration of vehicles. The bill would amend Section 502.146 to add new Subsection (c-1) to exempt from vehicle registration requirements a vehicle owned by a farmers' cooperative society or marketing association, as defined under Chapters 51 and 52 of the Agricultural Code, and used by members of the society or association for a fee. The bill would also amend Subsections (e) and (h) to allow such a vehicle owned by a farmers' cooperative society or marketing association to be issued a specialty license plate. The bill would take effect immediately upon receiving two-thirds majority vote in each house. Otherwise, it would take effect September 1, 2015. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
