LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 84TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION April 21, 2015 TO: Honorable John Whitmire, Chair, Senate Committee on Criminal Justice FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE:SB740 by West (Relating to the assessment of court costs and fees on conviction of multiple offenses or on conviction of multiple counts of the same offense.), As Introduced No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure to require a criminal defendant to pay only one set of court costs rather than separate court costs on each count of a multi-count indictment. The Office of Court Administration indicates that because the bill would align the law with actual current practice, no significant fiscal implication to the state is anticipated. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
