                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 224
 WHEREAS, Since its inception, Volunteer McKinney has
 inspired and mobilized countless Texans to take action in behalf
 of the community; and
 WHEREAS, In 1998, Volunteer McKinney was formed by a group
 of dedicated area leaders to help match citizens with local
 volunteer opportunities, while in turn providing nonprofit and
 civic groups with assistance in addressing important community
 needs; the center now recruits more than 7,800 volunteers each
 year, with their collective efforts benefiting upwards of 90
 agencies, shelters, charities, and organizations; and
 WHEREAS, Representatives from Volunteer McKinney deliver
 presentations at churches, schools, and other places to
 encourage people to get involved, work with local businesses to
 create volunteer programs for their employees, and offer
 valuable educational support to nonprofits; the organization is
 also a host of citywide events like McKinney Make a Difference
 Day and the Texas Trash-Off that engage hundreds of volunteers,
 and it annually pays tribute to individuals who have performed
 notable acts of service at the Spirit of McKinney awards
 ceremony; and
 WHEREAS, This outstanding resource is guided by the
 leadership of its board of directors, which includes president
 Patrick J. Cloutier, vice president Michael Dodson, treasurer
 David Field, secretary Jennifer McLaughlin, and board members
 Sue Bohner, A. Brook Fulks, Rob Nelson, Melanie Scobey, Peggy
 Smolen, Doc Vranici, and Rafael Zambrana; members continue to
 honor the memory of Charles Robinson, who ably served the board
 before his passing; and
 WHEREAS, For the past 17 years, Volunteer McKinney and
 those who have answered its pledge have supported programs that
 have made a meaningful difference in the lives of their fellow
 residents, and it is a privilege to join in saluting their shared
 commitment to building a brighter future for their city; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
 Legislature, hereby recognize Volunteer McKinney for its
 admirable efforts to promote civic involvement and extend to all
 those associated with the organization sincere best wishes for
 continued success with their many good works; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
 prepared for Volunteer McKinney as an expression of high regard
 from the Texas Senate.
