                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 242
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 join the citizens of Port Isabel and Texans across the state in
 celebrating March 3, 2015, as Port Isabel Day at the Capitol; and
 WHEREAS, Port Isabel was originally named Fronton De Santa
 Isabel after the land grant awarded to Don Rafael Garcia in the
 early 19th century; it was incorporated in 1928 as Port Isabel in
 recognition of the proposed port at the town site; and
 WHEREAS, Located near the southern end of South Padre
 Island on Laguna Madre Bay, Port Isabel offers a wide range of
 attractions and recreational opportunities, from world-class
 fishing to the longest pier in Texas to the historic Port Isabel
 Lighthouse; and
 WHEREAS, This unique community is home to such exciting
 annual events as the Lighted Boat Parade, Queen Isabella Market
 Day, the Lighthouse Arts and Heritage Festival, and the Longest
 Causeway Run and Fitness Walk; the city also boasts an exemplary
 public library system, excellent public schools, active sports
 programs, impressive museums, and a gracious, small-town quality
 of life; and
 WHEREAS, The people of Port Isabel are eagerly facing a
 prosperous future while continuing to embrace their rich and
 colorful past; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
 Legislature, hereby commend the people of Port Isabel on their
 many contributions to the growth and prosperity of our state and
 extend to them best wishes for a memorable Port Isabel Day at the
 Capitol; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
 honor of this special occasion.
