The bill would amend the Family Code to allow certain family members of a child, under certain circumstances, to seek temporary care of that child if the child's parents or guardians do not object. An order authorizing temporary care would be valid for one year and could be renewed for an additional year in certain circumstances. Such an order would have no effect on the rights of the parent or guardian. Based on the analysis of the Office of Court Administration, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources. Local Government Impact No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
