The bill would amend the Health and Safety Code relating to newborn screening tests for adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD). Health and Safety Code Chapter 33 currently requires the Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to screen for disorders listed as core and secondary conditions in the Recommended Uniform Screening Panel of the Secretary's Advisory Committee on Heritable Disorders in Newborns and Children, to the extent funding is available. ALD is listed among core conditions in the Recommended Uniform Screening Panel, however DSHS does not currently screen for ALD.
