LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD Austin, Texas FISCAL NOTE, 85TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION April 7, 2017 TO: Honorable Dan Huberty, Chair, House Committee on Public Education FROM: Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board IN RE:HB1114 by Burkett (Relating to a reduction in required days of service for educators in public schools under certain circumstances.), As Introduced No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would reduce the required days of service for educators in public schools to allow lessthan 180 days of service for educators on 10-month contracts in school districts that have lessthan 180 days of instruction. The bill specifies that there would be no reduction of an educator'ssalary associated with the legislation. The bill specifies that the provisions of the bill would only apply to a contract executed on or after the effective date of the act of September 1, 2017. A contract executed before the effective date of the act would be governed by the law in effect on the date the contract was executed and the former law would remain in effect for that purpose. Local Government Impact School districts may need to adjust 10-month teacher contracts to implement the legislation, but it is anticipated that this could be accomplished at minimal local cost.
